What is body shaming?
The action of humiliating someone by making mocking and critical comments about their body shape or size.
Body shaming is one of the biggest problem in today’s generation. Society not only degrading a woman’s body but also degrading a man’s body. It has become a problem for both genders. Body shaming is causing teens now-a-days to be insecure.
Body shaming in our Daily life :
People don’t realize that it is easy to humiliate someone by saying, “her body is so flat” and “he’s fat”. She needs to gain weight and he’s looking so ugly that he needs to lose weight to satisfy our society…..
Nobody chooses the body they have. Everyone is born into that body without a choice.
I’ll share my personal experience. I have been humiliated by some people about my weight. I used to hear a lot that I am so skinny. I don’t have a perfect figure. But soon I realize that being skinny isn’t my choice. So, I should be thankful to Allah for all the blessings I have. Alhamdulillah.
People find it very easy to humiliate someone but they didn’t realize that someone will be badly going from all these things. It can be affected by their minds.
Body shaming in an age of social media :
While body-shaming has been in society for quite some time, the Internet and social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat have brought it to an all-time high. These platforms invite body shaming and bullying more frequently.
According to the NATIONAL EATING DISORDER ASSOCIATION, about 65% of people with eating disorders say that bullying contributed to their condition. 33% of girls and 25% of boys report weight-based teasing from peers.
Body shaming is an issue that will not be solved unless everyone learns how to accept their own body.
